Overview

We are seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer who will focus on writing, designing and testing embedded firmware for electronic controls for commercial laundry equipment. The products at Alliance are used globally in laundromats, hotels, hospitals, universities, apartment complexes, fire stations and more. This position is based in Ripon, WI.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware using C programming for the front-end control boards of washing machines, washer extractors, tumblers, and dryers.
  • Design and implement embedded software solutions to ensure reliable and efficient product functionality.
  • Create detailed test specifications for embedded control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering labs to validate firmware on prototypes and production systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and resolve issues in firmware to ensure reliable product performance.
  • Work with embedded system peripherals such as UART, I2C, ADC, PWM, EEPROM, and other components.
  • Debug and optimize firmware to ensure efficient communication between components and peripherals.
  • Write engineering change notifications (ECNs) to manage updates and improvements in firmware.
  • Use change management tools like Git for version control and issue-tracking tools like YouTrack for efficient issue resolution.
  • Participate in product development meetings, feature definition sessions, and pilot builds.
  • Support manufacturing and production teams by resolving firmware-related issues during production.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in firmware development for embedded systems.
  • Prior project management experience highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in C programming; knowledge of Lua and UI design tools (e.g., Storyboard) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in embedded system peripherals: UART, I2C, Interrupt timers, EEPROM, ADC, and PWM.
  • Experience with Git for version control and YouTrack or similar issue-tracking tools.
  • Strong debugging skills and familiarity with test-driven development.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear and comprehensive technical documentation to support firmware development and maintenance processes.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration across teams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
